Police targeted women in OU: rights forum

HYDERABAD: Police targeted women students in Osmania University in the attack on Sunday as they were active in the ongoing pro-Telangana agitation, the Human Rights Forum felt.

The Forum presidents of State and city, S. Jeevan Kumar and P. Madhavi respectively, stated in a press release that the police frightened and humiliated women students to dissuade from participating in the movement. The Forum arrived at these findings after speaking to different sections in the university and officials in connection with the recent ‘police attacks’ on students and media on the campus.

Attack on media

The Forum found that police targeted media persons, with the support of higher-ups, as the latter were not only extensively covering the pro-Telangana agitation, but were also highlighting police excesses.

Mr. Kumar and Ms. Madhavi urged the government to order judicial inquiry.
