Story:

An interesting tale, the story is set on the backdrop of Mumbai and here is ACP Karan (Sonu Sood) who becomes a nightmare to the mafia. To get rid of him, don Kabir (Prakash Raj) arranges for a sharpshooter. In comes Vijju (Amitabh Bachchan) who is dressed colourfully, has an attitude though he is old. He is a former gangster and he wants to join the gang of Kabir. On the other hand, Karan is in love with Tanya (Sonal) while her friend Amrutha (Charmee) becomes a good friend of Vijju. The story takes a turn with Vijju's real purpose to return to India. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Artist Performances:

The film is carried throughout by Amitabh Bachchan and he exceeds the expectations. His dialogue delivery, his body language and his overall performance is great. Prakash Raj was effective and he makes his presence felt. Sonu Sood was confident and he made good use of his presence. Sonal Chauhan was beautiful while Charmee was amazingly adorable. Subbaraju was good. Hema Malini was gracious, Raveena Tandon was annoying, Makrand Deshpande was brief, Shahwar Ali was standard. The others did their bit as required and added value.

Plus Points:

    * Amitabh Bachchan's Characterisation
    * Charmee's Performance
    * Dialogues
    * Second Half
    * Tight Screenplay

Minus Points:

    * Not A Gripping Storyline
    * Disjointed Scenes In Between
    * No Depth In Emotional Scenes
    * Abrupt Ending To Few Characters

Analysis:

The film has come in with lot of hype and it must be said that the entire focus is on Amitabh and making full use of his experience. However, few scenes came across in a wonderful manner such as the ones between him and Hema Malini. But on the other hand, the alternate arrangement like a serious scene and a funny scene or a song in between disturbed the consistency. But still, there are some real good moments and overall, the viewer leaves the theatre with a positive impact. At the box office, this has the potential to score big hit.

Kanchana Movie Review

Kanchana

Movie
 : Kanchana
Rating: 2.5/5
Cast : Lawrence, Lakshmi Rai, Sarath Kumar, Kovai Sarala, Sreeman, Devadarshani, Babu Antony, Manobala and others
Directed by : Lawrence
Produced by : Bellamkonda Suresh
Banner : Sri Sai Ganesh Productions
Music : S S Thaman
Release Date : 2011-07-14

Story:

A revenge tale, the story begins with Raghava (Lawrence) who loves to play cricket and has a helping nature. However, he is very paranoid about ghosts and though he is a grown up, he sleeps with his mother (Kovai Sarala). Much to his fears, the story takes a turn when Raghava goes to play cricket at an open plot. Without his knowledge, he awakens a spirit which lies beneath the ground and follows him home. In no time, the spirit also enters Raghava's body and targets few people to kill. The efforts to drive away the spirit reveal the flashback and what happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Artist Performances:

Lawrence has come up with the required performance and he was upto the mark. Lakshmi Rai was overflowing with oomph factor and she did her bit in songs and few scenes. The film belongs to Sarath Kumar and though his role was brief he gave a powerful impact. Kovai Sarala was hamming, Devadarshini was okay, Sreeman was neat, Babu Antony was matured, the others did their bit as required.

Plus Points:

    * Sarath Kumar's Performance
    * Horror Sequences
    * Lakshmi Rai's Glamour In Songs
    * Good Emotional Depth

Minus Points:

    * Crass Comedy
    * First Half
    * Flaws In Screenplay
    * Weak Songs

Analysis:

The film is the sequel to the movie 'Muni' and though there is no connection, the theme is similar. While the first half passes off with its share of fear factor, songs and silly comedy, the second half gets into the real story and it has its share of dramatic moments. Technically, the film was alright but the scoring points were for the intensity and the subject chosen as the protagonist. At the box office, this should appeal to the mass audience and to those who like horror flicks.

Nanna Movie Review

Story:

A sensitive tale, the story begins with Krishna (Vikram) who is mentally challenged and he is seen roaming on the streets asking for one Vennela. Apparently, Vennela (Baby Sara) is his daughter and a twist of fate gets him to Anuradha Raghunathan (Anushka) a lawyer who is trying hard to bag a case. She is assisted by Vinod (Santhanam) and Priya (Priya) in this. However, Krishna's case looks a bit weird given his mental condition and Anuradha tries to get rid of him. Eventually she realizes through his flashback about Vennela and decides to unite the father and daughter. She files a case against Rajendra (Sachin) and Shweta (Amala Paul), grandfather and aunt of Vennela who take her away. They hire the most powerful lawyer Bashyam (Nasser) for this. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Artist Performances:

Vikram has come up with a sensitive performance and he shoulders the role very well. Anushka looks naturally stunning but this time it was all about her act and not her glamour, she was effective. Amala Paul is stunningly sensuous and she has done her bit gracefully. Nasser was powerful. Baby Sara was the best among the lot with her innocence and expressive face. Sachin Khedekar was elegant, Santhanam brought few smiles, M S Bhaskar was okay, Surekha Vani was natural, Y G Mahendran was brief.

Plus Points:

    * Storyline
    * Vikram and Baby Sara's performances
    * Cinematography
    * Song of Anushka and Vikram
    * Second half

Minus Points:

    * High dose of seriousness and sentiment
    * Predictable in few places
    * Ending might get mixed reactions
    * Not enough comedy or entertainment

Analysis:

The film is the dubbed version of the Tamil flick 'Deiva Thirumagal' which is releasing today. More than that, the film scores on its powerful narrative and the way each character has been handled. As such, this cannot be called a mainstream cinema given the content but then there is a lot to be learnt about human values, relations and feelings. While the first half runs on a flashback mode, it is the second half that gets into the courtroom drama and whistles were heard even from front bench audience for few sequences. The film will work at the box office but the makers must ensure to promote it aggressively.
