Students advised not to travel to Hyderabad

ADILABAD: Adilabad Superintendent of Police P. Promod Kumar on Friday appealed to students to desist from travelling to Hyderabad with the intention of participating in the ‘chalo Assembly’ programme on Saturday. He said there was every likelihood of anti-social elements creating trouble during the agitation which could cause problems for the participants.

Meanwhile, the police imposed prohibitory orders and launched vehicle checks to curb movement of students towards Hyderabad. About 70 students and political leaders were detained during checks under Section 151 of the Cr.P.C. from places like Chennur and Kagaznagar.

As many as nine cases were registered against those who were detained and their number is likely to go up in the night.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Students Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) appealed to students to participate in large numbers in the blockading of the Assembly.

Poster released

Dattatri, co convener of the Osmania University JAC, and A. Navin Reddy of the OU Old Students Association, released a poster related with the ‘chalo Assembly’ call at the Press Club here. They urged every family to send one representative for the agitational programme in Hyderabad. They also condemned the lathi charge on students on the OU campus recently.

Sangareddy Staff Reporter writes: Superintendent of Police V.C. Sajjanar suggested to the students not attend the ‘Chalo Assembly’ as there was no permission for the programme.

Stating that Section 144 and Police Act 30 were under force at district as well as in Hyderabad, in a release here on Friday, Mr. Sajjanar said that those participating in the programme would be seriously dealt with. He also told the students not to disturb or examinations in schools and colleges.

Karimnagar Staff Reporter adds: In the wake of “Chalo Assembly” programme by the student JAC leaders and other pro-Telangana activists, the Karimnagar district police invoked Section 30 of the Police Act from Friday to March 5 in entire district.

In a press, Superintendent of Police N. Shivashankar Reddy said that they would not allow any public meeting, dharnas, rasta rokos and use of public address system without prior police permission during the period. He appealed to the public to cooperate with police for the maintenance of peace in the district.
